EXP2 Experimental Sketches & Initial Concepts

The Clients are Alfred Nobel and Jacques Cousteau, who kept continuously attempted to enlight the darkness of the nature by human intelligence. Some of my initial ideas are shown by sketches above, as can be seen an approach of discovering the truth is the main clue of the whole space. This can be divided into two parts, for Nobel's lab, the darkness before achieving the success, and the brightness afterwards. Hence, a foyer was created, with a giant soild above, which make the space here extremely narrow and "repressive". This suggested the toughness of the process approaching to an achievement. In contrast, the hall after the foyer is filled with bright, and the light would shine onto the "rock" at the centre, which could produce a playful shading effect. The Entrance behind is the connection to the other client's space, and it also represents the non-stop discovery of a scientist. For Cousteau's lab, an installation upon the main space would be constructed in order to produce a sense of being under the surface of ocean, which is the theme exactly about. A tube will be built to connect these two labs, as well as the meeting place, hence different parts of the whole design can be well intergrated.
